Caddilac xperts & mechanics!!1Help me?

I have a 97 cad. deville my oil light came on the car smoked a little so i put a quart in it!! Rode about a mile and then the car smoked again & the dashboard which is digital said turn engine off and right at that instance the car stopped!! Now next I was able to put the car in neutral and it was easy to push only took one person to push it gently it wasnt hard to steer .The battery was fine. when i went to start him up she kicked a little but didnt turn over. might this car have some feature that will automatically shut it off b4 something major happens??!!Or is it dead??The fact that i still have some kick when you try to start it is that a good thing?? Meaning it isnt completely gone!??!
