Can I augment my headphone's sound quality by running an external sub woofer simultaneously?

Most earphones will cut out the audio to the speakers when you plug them into your earphone jack. That would also mean the subwoofer. I've only had one reciever that would play both at the same time. If yours does and you have inside the ear type phones you would be able to get the best of both worlds.
