Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand; I am going to work/live there for 6 months, teaching Maths in High School...?

Can someone please tell me a little about the place and the people? I am a 30 y.o male Australian, and I wanted a school that was away from Bangkok and close to the beach and nature.
